Biography
Contemporary artist Tauba Auerbach was born in 1981 in San Francisco, California. Auerbach studied at Stanford University and graduated in 2003 with a Bachelor of Arts in Visual Studies. After graduation, she moved to New York City.
Auerbach's experimental works are characterized by a fascination with duality, dimensionality and transitions. She is known for her so-called "fold" paintings, in which the canvas is given a three-dimensional texture by folding and ironing before it is painted. The result is a play between surface and space, between painting and sculpture. In addition to these media, Auerbach has also worked in photography, drawing, and performance, often exploring scientific, mathematical, and linguistic themes.
Auerbach's work has been featured in solo and group exhibitions worldwide, including prestigious institutions such as the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Whitney Biennial. She has also received several art awards and fellowships. Today she lives and works in New York.
