Biography

Marlon Wobst was born in Wiesbaden (Germany) in 1980. Since his youth Wobst painted with oil paints in figurative style. In the process, he found art by chance. As a teenager he was caught spraying and had to do community service. It is said to have been his former supervisor who taught him a lot of craftsmanship in painting, like a master teacher, the painter told in an interview.

He initially studied from 2005 to 2008 at the art academy in Mainz. After several attempts, he succeeded in gaining admission to the University of the Arts, where he studied from 2008 to 2011 and became a master student of the Finnish painter Robert Lucander. In 2013, the he was awarded the UdK President's Master Student Prize and exhibited his works with the other prize winners at the Georg Kolbe Museum in Berlin. In addition, in 2013 Wobst was awarded a scholarship through the Künstlerhaus Schloss Wiepersorf in Brandenburg, where he spent five months.

His painterly work is characterized by a great sense of humor and wit. Among other things, he deals with themes of everyday life or discourses of body optimization and beauty mania. In an exciting realism he paints mostly reduced motifs, which always have something whimsical, mysterious but also light.

Wobst's center of life and studio is in Berlin, a city that the painter uses as a breeding ground for his paintings. His works have already been shown in numerous group and solo exhibitions. Most recently, the artist exhibited his most recent works, large-format felt works, at the Schwarz Contemporary gallery in Berlin.
