Biography

Artist Anselm Kiefer was born in Donaueschingen, Germany, in 1945 and grew up in the post-war period, an experience that would strongly influence his artistic work. He studied at various art academies, including the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf, where he studied under Joseph Beuys, who had a significant influence on Kiefer's art.

In the 1970s, Kiefer began creating large-scale paintings and sculptures that explored German history and mythology, as well as spiritual and philosophical themes. Kiefer's works are often characterized by their textured surfaces and use of unusual materials such as lead, straw, and ash.

In 1980, Kiefer represented Germany at the Venice Biennale, and in the decades that followed, he has received international recognition, with major solo exhibitions in museums worldwide. Today, Kiefer lives and works in France and has a studio in Barjac and Paris.
