Liliana Porter is a contemporary artist from Argentinia who works with graphics, paintings, drawings, photographs, videos and installations.

Porter studied at the Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico City, where she attended a printmaking courses by Guillermo Silva Santamaría and participated in experimental workshops taught by Mathias Goeritz.Then the artist returned to her hometown Buenos Aires and completed her studies at the Escuela de Bellas Artes. Since 1964, Porter lives and works in New York. In 1970s she and Luis Camnitzer and José Guillermo Castillo founded a graphic workshop.

Liliana Porter is known for using toys, souvenirs and knickknacks in her works and creating subjects and scenes into unexpected, almost surreal landscapes and situations. In doing so, the artist emphasizes the double existence of the objects and through recontextualising she gives them a new meaning or identity.

In more than 35 countries and over 450 exhibitions, Porter’s artworks and editions have been exhibited to an international audience. Many of her works are part of renowned museums and private collections.
