Tacita Dean is a contemporary visual artist from the United Kingdom. In her work, the artist poetically explores themes such as history, memory and empathy, the forces of nature and human traces. In doing so, Dean is primarily concerned with historical processes and establishes complex webs of relationships between different media and times, between fiction and documentation.

Biography

Tacita Dean was born in 1965 in Canterbury, England. She studied at Falmouth College of Art in Cornwall from 1985 to 1988 and graduated from the Slade School of Fine Art in London.

Since the 1990s, Dean has worked in drawing, painting, installation and film, which the artist often brings together and combines. In terms of content, she addresses subjects such as history and time, memory and transience, human traces and the forces of nature. In doing so, the British artist is known for her characteristic artistic approach and her particular sensitivity to the medium and narrative style.

Dean has received numerous prestigious art awards. In 1998 she was nominated for the Turner Prize. Her work has been shown in solo exhibitions around the world. Today she lives and works in Berlin and Los Angeles and is considered one of the most important contemporary artists.
