Biography

Sven Drühl was born in Nassau (Lahn) in 1968. He studied art and mathematics at the University of Essen. In 2005 he received his doctorate in art history.

Drühl is known for his large-scale landscape paintings in the form of oil paintings and lacquer paintings. His works are characterized by copying, combining and redesigning already existing works of art. The painter draws inspiration from landscape painting from Romanticism to contemporary art, remixing and transforming them into new, often dystopian or post-apocalyptic depictions. At the same time, he reflects on the idea of the original in art and challenges common notions of authenticity and uniqueness.

Drühl's work has been recognized both nationally and internationally and has been featured in numerous solo and group exhibitions. He has received several awards and grants for his artistic and scientific contributions. Today, Drühl lives and works in Berlin.
